Her Championship titles include 8-time World Champion, 8-time Commonwealth Champion and 14-time Canadian Champion. She has performed with various groups across Canada and the United States, including with DRUM! at Dollywood in Tennessee, with the Squid Precision Drummers in Jacques Cartier park for Canada Day, and with various artists at the Celtic Colours International Festival. Off the stage, Marielle has lectured and taught dance workshops across Canada, Scotland, Ireland, South Africa and the USA. She has taught regularly at the Gaelic College in St Ann's, Nova Scotia, and was the highland dance instructor for two years at the College of Piping, in Summerside, PEI, before opening the Marielle Lesperance School of Dance in Dartmouth, NS. She has choreographed several award-winning numbers, using choreography to express the musicality in highland dancing. Marielle is also a Scottish Official Board of Highland Dancing Adjudicator. She owes her dancing success to her dance teacher, Ellen Cameron Maloney, and to Janice Macquarrie, who taught Marielle during her studies at St. Francis Xavier University. Throughout her competitive career, she has won an impressive amount of championship titles, including Provincial Champion and National Champion. She has also performed at the prestigious Edinburgh Military Tattoo in Scotland and the Basel Tattoo in Switzerland, among countless other performances. She is a Member of the Scottish Dance Teachers’ Alliance, has a Diploma in Fitness and Health Promotion from Algonquin College, and inspires her pupils both as a highland teacher and as a competitive cheerleading coach. She began dancing at the age of 7, under the direction of Sabra MacGillivray. She has competed and performed in Canada, the United States and Scotland as a Celtic Touch Dancer. Growing up in Cape Breton, she was surrounded by music and dance spending most weekends at ceilidhs, festivals, and shows. Some performance highlights include numerous performances as part of Celtic Colours International Festival, Rejigged Festival, Disney World, and the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall. Taylor has been fortunate to be taught by two wonderful teachers. She has been attending lessons with Janice Macquarrie since beginning her studies at St. Francis Xavier University. She has won the Atlantic Champion title twice and has represented Nova Scotia twelve times at the Canadian Championships. She has a deep love for performing and has danced in the Basel Tattoo in Switzerland in 2016 and 2018 as part of Canadiana Celtic, and at the International Tattoo in Belgium in 2024. She is an Associate of the Scottish Dance Teachers’ Alliance. During her time in university she also taught step dancing lessons. After completing her BSc in Nursing in 2018, she began her career as a registered nurse. She has travelled across Canada, the US, Scotland, and Australia to compete in championships and perform in military tattoos. Some highlights from her dance career thus far include winning the Ontario provincial championships three times, representing Ontario at the Canadian championships nine times, and winning the Canadian Championships in 2019. She has travelled to Scotland to compete in the World Championships qualifying for the world finals in both the Junior and Adult sections and finishing 4 th in the Junior World Championships in 2017. Performing has also been a big part of Fiona’s career and something she greatly enjoys. In 2015, she danced at the closing Ceremonies of the Pan American Games for a crowd of 50,000 in Toronto. In 2019, she travelled to Sydney, Australia to perform in the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo. Fiona loves sharing her passion for highland with the next generation of highland dancers. In addition to competing and performing, she now teaches alongside Eleanor Belton at Aspects of Dance in Burlington. In the spring of 2022, Fiona graduated from McMaster University with an Honours B.Sc.
