OUR STORY

Change of Step first came together in autumn 2014 with the goal of showcasing the beauty of Scottish highland dancing for a wide audience.

Our six founding members were brought together through the initiative of eight-time World Champion Marielle Lespérance. Many of our members have known each other since childhood. Over the years, we have competed against each other, worked side by side in dance classes, and performed on stage together, forming strong friendships along the way. We come from different places in Eastern Canada, have been trained by different teachers, and each have a unique dance story, but we all share a deep passion for highland dance.

We are all highly accomplished dancers. In competition, our individual members have won numerous regional, provincial, national, and international championship titles. We also have extensive performance experience. We have delighted audiences at countless shows in venues big and small, in Canada and internationally.

As Change of Step, we perform rhythmic, intricate choreography that is grounded in an appreciation for traditional music, and showcases the strength and grace of modern highland dancing (with some step dancing added for good measure!). We are dedicated to collaborating with other artists to develop innovative and memorable performances that inspire youth and adults alike to be proud of their cultural heritage.

Our mission is to put world-class highland dancing in the spotlight!
